Skin care is the collection of practices that support healthy skin, reduce its appearance and alleviate various skin disorders. They may consist of proper use of emollient, prevention of too much sun exposure, nutrition and alkaline minerals for skin and its various problems. The skin, being the largest organ in the body, is also vulnerable to various internal factors which affect it directly or indirectly. Some of these internal factors are hormonal changes due to pregnancy, heredity and mental stress. The stress and improper diet can cause a variety of skin disorders, including eczema, acne and psoriasis.
Skin care includes a regular cleansing regime consisting of cleansing the face twice daily in the morning and at night with a mild and oil-free cleanser and a moisturizer, and once in the evening with a heavy moisturizer. Brushing and combing the hair twice a week with a soft toothbrush and removing the dead skin cells on the scalp with a mild exfoliating cream are part of the routine. Skin care also means keeping the skin clean and removing the dead cells every few days with a gentle exfoliating cream. It is important to avoid smoking and drinking excessively as these all affect the body’s circulation and lead to dehydration.
Skin care includes cleansing the face in the morning with a medicated face cleanser and a moisturizer and at night with a heavy cleanser, preferably with anti-bacterial properties and a moisturizer. Most serums available on the market have a pH balance, preventing the development of pimples. The cleansing agents used for serums can be activated by adding aloe vera gel to the shampoo or simply using them by themselves. Some cleansers like Neutrogena’s Clean & Clear, Babassu wax from Africa and Babassu oil from the Amazon are very effective.
